Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder will have to duke it out, along with his fellow composers Kaki King and Michael Brook for the Best Original Score in a Motion Picture Golden Globe. The trio are behind the music to Sean Penn's adapted film Into The Wild. Vedder is also up for the Best Original Song in a Motion Picture Golden Globe for the film's track "Guaranteed." In the latter category he is up against some tough hitters - Shakira, Clint Eastwood, and funny guys John C. Reilly and Judd Apatow. (Vedder's "Guaranteed" is also nominated for the Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media Grammy Award.)The 65th annual Golden Globe awards will be broadcast live by NBC January 13th at the Beverly Hilton. 1. moovyphreak says Wow, they are nominated with a rather mixed bag of composers there. Clint Eastwood apparently volunteered to write the score for GRACE IS GONE after seeing an early run of the film. I haven't heard Inglesias' score for THE KITE RUNNER, but am familiar with his work from Spanish films like SEX AND LUCIA and the films of Pedro Almodóvar. I've heard that Dario Marianelli's score for ATONEMENT is very distracting, as it supposedly imitates a typewriter throughout the film's runtime. And while I saw EASTERN PROMISES a few months ago, I certainly don't remember it for its score, although Shore is best known for his work on the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy. I saw INTO THE WILD again last week and it was just as good as before, although I went to see it in a theater that has had digital projection since the summer, so I was expecting to see a beautifully crisp print of the film. Unfortunately, it was a regular film print and messed up on the reel a few times, which lessened the enjoyment of the film, as I had to keep walking out into the lobby to report issues. Vedder wrote all but one of the songs for the film. The one song that wasn't an original composition is "Hard Sun," which was originally written and performed by a Canadian artist named Gordon Peterson who simply went by the name Indio. My most recent MOG posting over a month ago was all about Indio and his music, who I learned about shortly after seeing INTO THE WILD the first time in October.
