Amy Winehouse Performs In St. Lucia (...It's Gonna Be A Slow Comeback)

Posted about 3 years ago

Over the weekend on-the-mend trainwreck Amy Winehouse took to the stage again at the 2009 St. Lucia Jazz Festival. The Grammy winning soul singer has been holed up on the Caribbean island working on the follow-up to her highly successful Back To Black album. After a slow start and as fans cheered in surprise, Winehouse, still sporting her trademark bee-hive up-do, skit-skated through "Know You Now" off her debut Frank. During her 45 minute set the sky opened up and down-poured in attempt to clean up the hot mess below, figuratively speaking of course. While Winehouse's singing wasn't exactly top notch, girlfriend sure was moving those hips.

When Amy Winehouse was "fat" ie "normal" looking and acting, i didnt really care for the erstatz/Jools Holland jazz stylings,i dismissed her quite easily...and,funny thing was, she seemed strictly a "left-field" artist for the cognicenti only.

Now she's the total wasted train-wreck ,and i find the existing recordings in the "new" guise totally brilliant.

ADDED to that, looking at it both intuitively and counter-intuitively, her singles ,"re-hab" ,"tears"  and ,latterly "Valerie" ,are never off the main-stream radio channels!

i spose what i'm getting round to saying is,that i've never bought  that "if only they were'nt such a mess, they could have been EVEN better" line we often get from the moral high-ground.

    She looks a bit healthier . . . I remember when I though "Rehab" was funny.  I really don't anymore . . .

I happened across the youtube a few hours ago and after about 1 minute of watching those poor back up dancers/singers exhaust themselves whilst Ms Winehouse stood there like a dick ... tuned out...

It was the proverbial train wreck... but this time i found i turned away... which surprised me..

One can only hope she finds her way at some stage...sooner rather than later...

I have to agree with Zen on this one. She doesn't look "ready' whatever that means. but the last time I looked, I think she was catagorized as an "entertainer." I guess entertainment still means something other than whatever that was.

This wasn't the one where she was booed off the stage I guess. Last week some time.

Ah, yes....those legs, the voice, that beehive....

And that dress she is almost wearing.

I disagree with Zen- she isn't standing there like a...whatever...because she is arrogantor something. She is simply and clearly clueless as to the dance moves- either because she either didn't have time to rehearse or she is still too much of a trainwreck to be able to rehearse.

Chris- as for your thought- ("if only they were'nt such a mess, they could have been EVEN better" line) that may apply correctly to some- but I bet Mickey Mantle would have disagreed with you.
