Beastie Boys, Pearl Jam & Jack White's New Band Set For '09 ACL
-
Artist:

A 3 day pass to Austin City Limits music festival, October 2nd-4th, 2009, is gonna cost you $185. Divided by three that's, what...about $62 per day. $62 is not bad considering a normal ticket to a major venue that would host a major act like the Beastie Boys (tickets to the trio's September 24th Hollywood Bowl show range from $25 to $125), Pearl Jam or Dave Matthews would be about the same price. But with ACL you are getting the same bang for your buck, plus a buttload more bands for the $62 ticket price, which is one of the many reasons to love the scorching Texas festival.
In addition to the aforementioned headliners - Beastie Boys, Pearl Jam and Dave Matthews Band - others finding themselves on the 2009 ACL bill include the Kings Of Leon, Ben Harper and Relentless 7, Thievery Corporation, John Legend, Levon Helm Band, Ghostland Observatory, Sonic Youth, Mos Def, Flogging Molly, Lily Allen, Arctic Monkeys, The Decemberists, Girl Talk, Phoenix, Andrew Bird, Bon iver, !!!, Grizzly Bear, Passion Pit, Dan Auerbach, White Lies and tons more.
But most notable is the Dead Weather, the new side-project from Jack White, Kills frontwoman Allison Mosshart, The Raconteurs bassist Jack Lawrence and Queens of the Stoneage guitarist Dean Fertita. The band launched mid-March and have only played live a couple of times. Next to ACL '09, the band is only scheduled to perform at San Fran's Outside Lands fest at the end August. Yet another reason that the $62 is so worth it.
This year's fest has been pushed back a couple of weeks to October 2nd-4th from its usual mid-September slot, but the location remains the same - Austin's Zilker Park. Can't wait for the refreshing jump in Bonner Springs.

Looks like a lot of fun. I absolutely love Zilker Park and the festival. I wonder which one will take Festival of the year? There's so many great ones including Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, All Points West, ACL, Coachella, and many more
My problem isn't the headliners (other than the fact that Dave Matthews does nothing for me). I don't recognize hardly any of the smaller level bands, especially compared to last year. That said, I look forward to going again this year.
I'm with you, ZZTodd - but I'm pumped about Bon Iver, Passion Pit, Grizzly Bear, Girl Talk, Dead Weathers, Andrew Bird and Sonic Youth. Totally stoked Sonic Youth is playing!
Jack's new band sounds intriguing. That alone could be worth the price of admission.
Chocodile: Yeah I'm psyched about Sonic Youth as well. Surprised they are not billed higher.
RX: Have you heard their song "Hang You From The Heavens"? It's pretty awesome.
yeah i'm digging the smaller bands, esp after sxsw Dan Auerbach. You gotta chekc himout ZZ. Also i like Passion Pit's sound. They'd never be a favorite but they are a fun listen.
ZZ- No I had not known they released anything yet, until you prompted me to see if it's out there in the blogOsphere. Low and behold, it was- and here it is for all of us to take in.
The Dead Weather - Hang You from the Heavens
Charley: I'm a huge Black Keys fan (they rocked at ACL last year), so I definitely am going to see Dan. I really like his solo record, too. Haven't heard of Passion Pit. I'll have to check them out and get back to you.
RX: Yeah they released that and another song a month or so ago. I believe the album is out in June or July.
Cool, ZZ. So far, I've liked all of Jack's side projects.
