The Fall's Mark E Smith Rocks From A Wheelchair

Posted 10 months ago

Alright, I'll give him brownie points for this one. The Fall's Mark E Smith - the only remaining member of the post-punk band's original line-up - returned to the stage last night following a massive hip injury. Earlier this year Smith fell and broke his hip while on tour of the US. This fall came after the 2004 fall that also injured his hip. Take into account the band's name and it's a little ironic to say the least.

Last night Smith, 52, and his band took to the stage in Cambridge, England. Following treatment for the bad hip Smith performed from a wheelchair ... again. After the hip first gave out in '04 Smith refused to cancel gigs on a forthcoming tour promoting The Real New Fall EP, opting for the wheelchair solution, but the pain sidelined him anyway.

And while most sane people would probably take a day off, Smith and co will play the KOKO in London tonight (April 1st). Not saying Smith is sane. He did go bat crazy on his bandmates during a 1998 concert. You can listen to radio DJs talk about the April 4th 1998 incident at Philly's Trocadero here.

With 27 albums in their repertoire, the Fall's latest release is 2008's Imperial Wax Solvent.
