Stevie Nicks Covers DMB's "Crash Into Me"

Posted about 3 years ago

Stevie Nicks is working hard these days. First there's Fleetwood Mac's "Unleashed" reunion tour. Then there's her solo stuff - two releases, a DVD and CD, both out on the same day, March 31st.

The DVD recorded during a tour stop in the Windy City and aptly-titled Live In Chicago includes all of Stevie's and her tambourine's finest cuts - "Rhiannon," "Landslide," "Gold Dust Woman" and more, but also sports two rad covers. The first being Led Zeppelin's "Rock And Roll" and then Dave Matthews couples anthem "Crash Into Me," which she admits, "I've wanted to record this song for the last 10 years." Nicks then took the Chicago performance, her first taping and recording of a live solo show since 1985, and some extra tunes and laid them down in a Nashville studio. The studio recording will be released as "The Soundstage Sessions."

Lead singles - the DMB cover and an acoustic version of "Landslide" come out St. Patty's Day on AmazonMP3.com.

Here's a crappy video of Nicks singing "Crash Into Me."

It's too bad someone's singing along, so you can't just hear Stevie.

She does one of the finest covers of Rock 'n Roll.  IMHO beats Ann Wilson hands down.  You go, Stevie!

Most music videos have too many fast cuts between shots that are too close up, but this one is the opposite.  The latter is a good argument for the former.

She can sing in the husky or lo & breathy way that I remember with Joplin & a few other's . I have heard Fleetwood w/o her and they drop in quality do to what is missing since she is needed to have Fleetwood sound.

It is good for me to wrap my mind around the days they started it fit in to a good time in music.
