Meet me in Midtown, on the corner of Broadway and U2 Way. That is technically what someone could be telling a friend this week. Yesterday New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg temporarily renamed a block of 53rd street, between Broadway and 8th Avenue, "U2 Way" in honor of the Irish rockers.
"Everyone in this city, including me, considers these four Dubliners honorary New Yorkers." Bloomberg said during the street unveiling.
This week has marked a U2 media blitz with the release of the band's 12th studio album No Line On The Horizon. In addition the Manhatten street renaming U2 are midway through a week long residency on the Late Show with David Letterman, performing a new No Line On The Horizon track each night. Letterman, taped in the Ed Sullivan Theater, is located now on U2 Way.
"The Beatles had Penny Lane, Elvis lived on the end of Lonely Street," U2 frontman Bono noted. "We're here somewhere between 10th Avenue and funky, funky Broadway, somewhere south of Duke Ellington Way and north of Joey Ramone Place we find ourselves where the streets have no name." Way to get the cheesy pun out of the way Bono boy.

Now, that's just freaking cool!!! :)
Pshaw! I have a whole town named after me! Ingham, Queensland, Australia. Beat that you Irish fops!
Is it wrong of me that I totally want to steal one of those signs...fuck, U2 has enough honors, medals, plaques, doctorates, noble designations, awards, ribbons and priceless artifacts they've been rightfully given in their illustrious career...I think they can afford for me to take a street sign for having bought three copies of Achtung, Baby in my life...fair trade, right?
