Holy Yoshimi they did it! The Flaming Lips are the proprietors of the official Oklahoma rock song. 'Do You Realize??' off the nutty rockers' 2002 comeback album Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots was named the official rock song of the state of Oklahoma by the state's legislature yesterday, March 2nd. Does this mean they get a tax break? No, but the song was picked out of 454 nominees, narrowed down to 10 finalists that included Elvis Presely's "Heartbreak Hotel" and All American Rejects' "Move Along." The Lips won 51 percent of 21,061 votes for the title. But before you cue the "Come To Oklahoma/Do You Realize??" TV commercial, Rogers & Hammerstein's "Oklahoma," from the musical of the same name, remains the official state song.
"I never gave it that much thought," frontman Wayne Coyne told the AP. "We're in this just to have fun and we wind up winning."

I'd heard a while back that it looked like they would win ... but, I was sure that Elvis would end up winning ... well, because he's Elvis.
