ELO have made their mark in music history books with some mighty '70s power anthems - "10538 Overture," "Strange Magic" and "Don't Bring Down (no no no no no)" to name a few. Today news hits that the band's former bassist Kelly Groucutt has died following an unexpected heart attack. He was 63.
Following a stint in the UK band Sight And Sound, Groucutt joined ELO in 1974, three years after Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood birthed the orchestra rock project in Birmingham, England. The bassist toured with ELO throughout their heydey, singing falsetto back-up on some songs too. Groucutt eventually parted ways with the band in 1983, but kept the spark alive starting knock-off bands OrKestra, ELO Part II, and The Orchestra.
He is survived by his second wife Anna-Maria Bialaga, four children and two grandchildren.

Never liked them, but you have to give them props for sounding totally original. Alwaysd sad when someone dies too young...R.I.P. Kelly
As a dyed-in-the-wool ELO fan, this is truly sad news. Kelly was there during the best years of ELO's sound, and many fans believe that his input and performances helped to shape the distinctive ELO sound. After he left, the band was never the same.
Let's hope he is in Rock n' Roll Heaven!
:( that's such a bummer ... I really enjoyed ELO back in the day.
the radio sounded great even in mono back then when their songs were played
yeah i liked their sound too for its originality
I was a fan (and still am) of ELO.....this is sad news. "Living Thing" and "Mr. Blue Sky" are just a couple of songs that I've always really enjoyed. R.I.P. Kelly Groucutt.
