The Mars Volta New Album Plagued By Bad Luck

Posted over 2 years ago
The Mars Volta's new concept album The Bedlam in Goliath will hit stores on January 29th. Some songs that make up the album include "Aberinkula," "Metatron," "Ilyena," "Tourniquet Man." A few tracks run more than 10 minutes, like "Goliath," and are doused with the guitar experimentation of previous Volta albums. Red Hot Chili Pepper axeman John Frusciante even adds some of his skills to the album. The band came up with the idea for The Bedlam in Goliath after guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez came back from a trip in Jerusalem and gave frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala a gift. The gift was a sorta Ouiji board, which the band tagged "The Soothsayer."While touring the Volta guys would get all cryptic and play "The Soothsayer" channeling a "mother-daughter-and-other-man love triangle" also apparent by the poems inscribed on the board.Bixler-Zavala told MTV.com that he met "different people through the game, and I was getting different mixed messages from it. After a while, we started having a lot of bad luck happen to us, and we kind of got rid of the thing, and in the process of using it, we discovered a lot of weird things about it."The list of things gone wrong:-The studio flooded -The main engineer on the album had a nervous breakdown-Bixler-Zavala had foot surgery -Drummer quit mid-Red Hot Cili peppers Tour leaving band in financial demise"We were kind of not allowed by Omar to speak its name," Bixler-Zavala said of the paranoia that ensued, "while we were making the record, for fear of bad mojo." When luck didn't improve the guitarist buried it and swore never to tell where.Courtesy of: MTV.com
