MOG Board Member Wins Grammy

Posted about 3 years ago

MOG's blasting the noise-makers and keeping the champagne flowing today in honor of board member Rick Rubin, who took home the Producer Of The Year (Non-Classical) trophy at the 51st Grammy Awards. This trophy is the yang to Rubin's other Producer of the Year yin two years ago, bringing the Grammy tally, according the Grammy.com, to seven. His other wins include Best Country Album, Album of the Year, Record of the Year for his work on the Dixie Chicks' Taking The Long Way; Best Rock Album for his work on the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Stadium Arcadium; and Best Country Album for the late Johnny Cash's Unchained.

Rubin was given a shout out by Green Day before the Bay Area rockers presented the award for Album of the Year at the end of the telecast.

Fellow uber-producers Will.i.am (Fergie, Sergio Mendes) Nigel Godrich (Radiohead), Danger Mouse (Beck, Gnarls Barkley, The Black Keys), and Johnny K (3 Doors Down, Black Tide, Staind, Plain White T's) all went home empty handed. Rubin also beat Danger Mouse for Beard in Music Production.

Named by Time magazine as one of the 100 world's most influenctial people, Rubin was recognized for his contribution on Metallica's Death Magnetic, Neil Diamond's Home Before Dark, Ours's Dancing For The Death Of An Imaginary Enemy, Jakob Dylan's Seeing Things and Weezer's Red Album. That's one hell of a busy year and here at MOG we can't wait to see what the next one brings.

Congrats!

all right!  way to go and congrats!

seems like Rubin would be hard to beat in the beard category.  i imagine it's a prerequisite for working with metal bands like Neurosis and OM...

Certainly is about time. When is he going to get some kind of visonary award for starting Def Jam? The dude changed the face of music.

I liked the Metallica album but very much looking forward to what's next.
