Metallica's Lars Ulrich Says New Album Contains 'Long, Epic Journeys'

Posted over 4 years ago
Metallica are set to release the follow-up to 2002's St.Anger next February. The band will be finishing vocal mixes through December.Drummer Lars Ulrich speaking with Examiner.com revealed some "silly working titles", including '19', '10', 'German Soup', 'Glass Cow', and 'Black Squirrel'. The titles come from nothing in particular. "Glasgow, Scotland became 'Glass Cow,' Ulrich admitted. "And when we don't have anything clever to call it, we just call it a number." Ulrich continued, "These new songs echo some of our stuff from the '80s -long, epic journeys through different musical landscapes, heavier, but a lot more melodic.""For our sanity, our own creative survival, we needed to work with a different set of circumstances and dynamics," Ulrich says of taking on Grammy-winning producer Rick Rubin on the still untitled effort."So we've been stripped of our defense mechanisms, and it's been very invigorating to be challenged again. Rick's taken everything we've known about making records and completely turned it upside down."This weekend Metallica play the Bridge School Benefit at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. They will share the stage with Neil Young, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tom Waits with the Kronos Quartet, John Mayer, My Morning Jacket, Tegan & Sara, Regina Spektor.Courtesy of: http://wwww.examiner.com/a-1006104~Metallica_s_Lars_Ulrich_keeping_busy.html
