Beck Covers Dylan On New War Child Compilation "Heroes;" Take A Listen

Posted 10 months ago

Beck, Hot Chip, Lily Allen, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Hold Steady, Franz Ferdinand are only some of the blockbuster names that appear on perhaps the most innovative War Child compilation yet. The nonprofit, which helps war-affected children, reached out to a bevvy of legendary musicians. We're talking Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney and others in music's A list. Keeping the theme in mind that we are placing faith in the next generation, War Child asked that they choose one hipster generation artist to rework one of their classics. Then aptly called the whole thing Heroes.

What an honor for Beck who scored Bob Dylan's "Leopard-Skin Pill Box Hat." (Bob Dylan jams to Beck?) You can watch Beck performing it live fromthis year's Outside Lands festival below. The Boss, who just added another shiny Golden Globe to his collection of trophies, tagged the Hold Steady to cover his Nebraska track "Atlantic City." Lily Allen got Mick Jones to play on her cover of the Clash's "Straight to Hell." And, a fan since day one, Bowie had TV On The Radio cover the album's title-track.

Even Paul McCartney's agrees, "The breadth of talent on this project is amazing; it's great that so many people gave their time, energy and support to this initiative."

Heroes comes out February 24th, 2009
