
Martin Scorsese will direct a documentary on the life of George Harrison,
Variety is reporting. Scorsese's recent foray into rock and roll documentaries include the Rolling Stones' forthcoming
Shine A Light and the Bob Dylan doc
No Direction Home.The Harrison documentary will be released in theaters and will include extensive materials from the Harrison family archive. "George Harrison's music and his search for spiritual meaning is a story that still resonates today and I'm looking forward to delving deeper," Scorsese told
Variety. Production for the film will begin later this year and it is expected that surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, as well as Harrison's wife, Olivia, will be among those interviewed.George Harrison passed away in 2001 of lung cancer at age 58.
