The White Stripes Cancel US Fall Tour

Posted over 2 years ago
First came the news of the White Stripes calling off their headlining performance at this weekend's Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, Texas. Now, less that a day later, comes the news that the White Stripes have canceled their entire fall tour. The reason? Drummer and one-half of the former couple/band, Meg White "is suffering from acute anxiety and is unable to travel at this time." The trek was to officially kick off tonight (September 13th) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Each date until the tours close, October 13th in Honolulu, has been canceled. However, the duo's UK trek, which begins October 24th is still on. The Muse will replace the White Stripes at their scheduled Austin City Limits appearances, the festival slot on September 15th and the following night's more intimate performance at the city's Stubbs Bar-B-Q.We have heard the "exhaustion" excuse before, but not the "acute anxiety" one. Are they synonyms, for "needs to go to rehab"? Regardless we hope Meg gets better. White Stripes canceled tour dates:Sept. 13: Albuquerque, N.M. (Kiva Auditorium)Sept. 15: Austin, Texas (Austin City Limits)Sept. 16: Austin, Texas (Stubb's BBQ)Sept. 18: Chula Vista, Calif. (Coors Amphitheatre)Sept. 19: Inglewood, Calif. 2. mister gary at work again says Initial 'rumor' hitting news sites was "nervous breakdown" ... but all stories with that phrasing mysteriously disappeared without a trace within a half an hour or so of each other, and were eventually later replaced with mentions of 'medical issues' and later, 'acute anxiety.'

  8. lmnop805 says I'm really sorry, but a part of me isn't feeling all that bad about them cancelling their tour...ive seen them a number of times live...easily the best show on earth, I love'em...from dusty dive bars in Charleston, WV to SOMA in SD, they are great...but this whole huge arena thing they have going is so not cool. And I for one am feeling really good about having not bought a ticket. I hope she feels better soon, she's darling, even if her drumming is well, lets face it, kinda me'h.

  9. avenustylee says Her basic blam blam drumming is the perfect foil for Jack White's screaming (voice) and guitar!!!!! Give the girl a break!

  10. ouvintes says yeah, I've always thought your band can only be as good as your drummer. And it's true that Meg is not a David Grohl on the drums. But still...it works for the Stripes, always has. Good enough for me.

  11. NicoleCassidy says What's up with everyone saying they hope she dosen't have a drug habit? I seriously doubt it. There is actually a such thing as anxiety, and sometimes people have it. Simple as that, christ.

  12. ghostofunder says I know nothing of Meg's personal life or possible drug issues but when I read "acute anxiety" my first thought was panic disorder. It's real condition and could easily cause a performer to cancel a tour.
