The Monks kicked off their world tour in my home town of Bemidji, MN last week. I wanted so badly to be there, but alas, I was stuck in LA working. Aah well. They left straight for Europe to play dates in Germany and... I don't really know where else, honestly.
Why Bemidji? That's where Gary Burger (Monks lead singer and front man) lives. I was in a rock band with him once upon a time. I was by far the youngest person in the band at only 18 years. It was a great way to start gigging. There are guys out there who would have given their left nut to do that.
Here's a group photo courtesy of a guy I know named Ron Miles.

My Trusted MOGs
Apparently these dates are coinciding with the release of a Monks documentary film. All of the tour dates listed are in Europe, with more tba. I pray they come to L.A.

Thanks for the post!

Apparently, the doc premiered in LA recently, but I had no idea at the time. I read about it in the trades after the fact. I, too, pray they make it down there. I guess I'll see you there when it happens.

I was there man.. we (Blew Munday) opened for them at Jammers. After we were done, the building filled to capacity and even ticket holders that weren't in yet had to be turn down. The building filled to the max. Once on stage the drummer ( who replaced Roger Johnston) pounded the bejeezes out of the drums. The first song was MONKTIME, of course. David was smiling, playing the banjo. Gary Burger was playing guitar, and singing. Eddie Shaw was on bass and the frizzy haired black rimmed glassess dude on keys was a hoot. The drummer looked like Fred Flintstone and used big mallots to pound. During the drum solo, in the middle of the set, Gary Burger dropped his guitar on the stage floor while it was feeding back. All the other front men got on their knees and rubbed on the guitars fret board scratching the strings and adding to the weird noises already going on. Wow, they played one encore. They only had a limited set list. Then off to Europe they went. I saw the only USA tour for the Monk's 2006.
