I made a myspace bulletin today, all about music. Yes stab me, please. I think it was half decent, questions included sad songs nostalgic songs fave albums etc. But anyway. Not the greatest day today. Only in history do I avoid the daily music debate; with the hard rock/jazz man Chris, rap man Morgan and avid anti-emo boagn Dion. (I hate to say I'm a music snob, but when talking to these "manly" men I can only take Chris seriously, and thats only because of his fantastic sax talent.) Usually it's a friendly discussion where most genres are covered and criticised. But today, without Morgan present to lighten the mood I got in a deep funk. I ENJOY SOME EMO MUSIC. Saves The Day, Say Anything and Taking Back Sunday are three absolutely fantastic bands with some real talent behind them. Saves The Day have a fantastic sound/bassist (I love the up-and-down-arpeggiated-big-distorted-angry-bass yes I do), the lyrics leave little to the imagination but I don't think that's their main priority, listening to it. I love that Say Anything actually embrace their genre, their pop roots, they're comfortable in their skins. Sir Bemis has ACTUAL REAL REASONS to express himself and complain. Oh and, Taking Back Sunday. Their first album (can't seem to get hold of the second) is very basic, a couple of good tracks. But Louder Now...I can still get shivers from that album. The sound is crystal clear. They haven't missed one little tiny beat. They stretch their talent right to its extents and show all their massive diversity. I can't find a song that even ANNOYS me. It's not my favourite album or anything, but I just think they are incredibly under-appreciated, musically anyway. Again the lyrics are a secondary feature. NOTE: none of these bands scream in the majority, claim to be "punk" (whatever the hell THAT is nowadays), and all have musicians with real talent rather than a few chords. Apart from them, tracing back to my pop punk years, I enjoy Fall Out Boy, Lostprophets, on the odd occasion. I like the chord progressions, pretty much. AND Patrick Stump can SING consarnit. Emo is too classified..when it comes down to it, its the damn lyrics that are the problem, not the style of music. if you had no vocals, it would be "pop punk" or "rock" or whatever. But you wouldn't be able to justify calling it emo. BUT ANYWAY! I got distracted. In class today I tried to express my point of view. [Last year I was fully into the emo MUSIC, none of that ridiculous culture nor style nor nothing, though I did have a teenage passion for my bands of choice, but who doesn't?] They strapped me down and threw things at me. Metaphorically. I can't remember the details, the main attacks came during a hazy film of pure fury, but of course it was myself who ended up being the scapegoat via the teacher. But I am sick and tired of being categorised because of a few bands that I like. I will NOT be ashamed of them! My favourite artists are Elliott Smith, Ben Folds, The Flaming Lips..not the aforementioned. But it seems you can't even enjoy the music in this day and age and high school without being classed. I hope somebody reads this and comments. Even if it's to call me a 'dirty emo' as they are so quaintly known at my school. ANGRY DWARF THAT I AM!!

My vote ALWAYS goes to bands who can sing. So you like emo - great! Now post a favorite song or two so we can talk about it.

Darlin... that _IS_ high school - cliques & groups & not about individuality for the most part - this is so dreadfully unfortunate - as it is a time when we all try our best to shape ourselves... thankfully - you can be like me, a work in constant progress !!!
I have been so swamped lately, I haven't gotten time to finish your mix - but that all changes this weekend !!!! I am SOOOOO sorry. By the time I get it to you - you will have a new love :)
Love EMO music - but remember - EMO is short for emotional - and really if we go by that definition - most music is EMO - throw that at your friends... I think most music is written via feelings & emotions that need to be expressed - hence EMOTIONAL !!!! Gonna have to kick some arse if they don't let up, that or send some of my friends closer to your locale out to you to kick some arse !!!
I have yet to find a type of music I don't appreciate - Say Anything - just recently got turned onto them & love them immensely !!!

dermahrk: will do! but my computer and MOG have an ongoing war with each other. when one works the other refuses to. So I'll try but I'm not sure when I'll be able to post! lizzie: work in constant progress, I'm sure that is my occupation to come! :) that was always my problem with "emo" as well, emotional doesn't mean SAD! there are plenty of emotional happy songs! Ah Say Anything they're so fantastic-they have a new album soon! :D again no problemo re the mix. Dion is much to Australian to see sense. OZZIE BEER SWEAR CATEGOROISE! But soon he'll be unleashed upon society, I don't know what they'll make of him! thanks again
