Reflections on My Collection: Resigned

I don't remember why at this point, but in 1997 (the year this album came out) I was still obsessing with the death of my father three years before. Little wonder then, that this record spoke to me or that I spent countless hours playing "Out of My Hands" over and over again. With song titles like "Selfish", "Cover up" and "Comfort", this may have been an infectious, pop album to everyone else,

Aah...listening to this record brings back memories of my older brother and I (at 12 and 10, respectively in 1976) buying the vinyl and dragging it down to the basement - putting it on pretty much permanant rotation for who knows how long. Long enough, anyway, for the album cover to be etched into my memory. I don't know why we bought this one. We didn't buy "Venus and Mars", the album that wik

There are many Mary Chapin Carpenter albums I could have picked for this spot, I have a great deal of them, but I think this is the one that best describes what I love about her.Sure, she's had many country hits, but she's NOT a country artist. I don't listen to country, really. She's been pigeon-holed because a lot of her most popular songs made it onto country radio. She's been filed away and

I always indentified with Vic Chesnutt. Other people and famous artists loved his word-play and his humor and his way with a song and yes, I agree, they were stellar. But, that's not what I loved. That's not what I identified with.I identified with his anger. I loved his fury. ...And you may say: "Why, theres no "fury" there. There's no anger."But, then, you don't know what it is to be disable

I still love this record, and still play it constantly (though not in it's original cd form), despite the throwaway tracks like "Dick Holster" and "For Those of Ya''ll That Wear Fanny Packs". I think some of this stuff is the best Ben Folds Five has ever done. Yet its a "rarities and old songs" release. Which, I guess, means that I prefer what they were at the start rather than what they turned

I still bemoan the break-up of The Georgia Satelites, what a great band they were.... But at least Dan Baird, their lead singer, came out with a rollicking, rocking solo album in the early 90s. Turn this up as far as you can and you'll have an instant party. The worst song here, "I Love You Period" was a radio hit, no clue why. I always prefered "Look at What You Started", "Dixie Beauxderaunt"
