I recently purchased this album and have listened to it a few times. To be honest, I wasn't totally impressed. Some of the songs, like Luv (Sic) and the Lonely End of the Rink harken back to the good old days of the Hip, but songs like In View seem, to me, to only be present on the record to increase sales. In View has a sound completely independent from the rest of the album, and being that it was chosen to be the album's single, I can only assume that its purpose is/was to make the record appeal to a wider demographic, eg. Americans. Now I have nothing against bands trying to make their way into the territory of our southern neighbours, but to sell out on your own style and audience is reprehensible, and that's precisely what In View does. To me, the Hip have long stood as a symbol of what great Canadian music really is. In View puts a real dent in the amount of respect I have for the band. Something tells me they'll never again quite live up to the sounds and styles of Fully Completely and Phantom Power.

you know i was never a big Hip fan. Then again i have only heard a song or two. Perhaps i'll have to demo a copy of Phantom Power.
