the Mexico Electric - Whisky Trains & Angels

the Mexico Electric's debut, Whisky Trains & Angels, features members of Charleston's French Kiss Coma trading off with Jitterbug and Rain's Brit Byers to create a blend of rock, folk/ noise. FKC's Nevin Cahill in turns croons and shreds. Brit's voice possesses a grit informed by a passion beyond her youth. The record was recorded at Taxi Recordings and mastered by Kramer and I'm informed that the band has recently begun shopping it. Enjoy!

Here's another offering from the upcoming Mexico Electric album. It was recorded and mixed in Chicago at Taxi Recordings and will be mastered by Kramer (Shimmydisc, SecondShimmy, ShimmyLand).

Featuring the lullabyish vocals of Nevin Cahill, chief noise architect of the band French Kiss Coma.

Here's another tune from the forthcoming Mexico Electric album, title tbd at this writing. "Heartstained Blues" is one of 14 songs on the album to be released on the Rainy Day Collective label. They're having it mastered by Kramer. Hope you like it. If so, stop by and let 'em know:

the Carson Mcullers

Here's one from the Carson Mcullers. The New Messengers' bassist, Jamison, asked me to help him record some songs he had written based on his mother's murder and the lengthy fallout which ensued.

I immediately jumped at the chance.

Backed by Nevin from French Kiss Coma, Britney from Mexico Electric, and featuring Lewis Harris (Pent-up House) on bass. We recorded the songs over July and August. Kramer (Shimmy/Second Shimmy) mixed and mastered it last month. It finally got here a week ago.

I don't want to go too much into specifics, but there's some really great music on this record that comes from a remarkable place.

This one features Britney on vocals.

New tune from the New Messengers

Here's a new one for you. Sort of a glammed-up version of the march of the baby elephants. Part coming of age story, part cautionary tale.

Enjoy!

the Technical Jed

This is a song from 1996's the Oswald Cup, the ill-fated sophomore effort from my old group, the Technical Jed. We were lucky enough to work with producer Rich Costey (Muse, RATM, etc) in some of the nicest studios in Richmond, New York, and Boston. The band broke up weeks before touring on this record and the label shelved it. Word was they used the jewel boxes for their other releases.

Your new friends, Mexico Electric!

Here's a preview of the Mexico Electric album, title TBD. They're putting it out on the Rainy Day Collective imprint.

The product of a French Kiss Coma recording schedule that didn't allow for the bassist to attend, they decided instead to record the mellower side of their musical abilities.

The duo on vocals is Brit Byers (Jitterbug and Rain) and Nevin Cahill (French Kiss Coma). Some of the songs were written on the train to the studio. Britney's voice is something.

It's due out in October along with offerings from French Kiss Coma, the Carson McCullers and the New Messengers.

"Secret lovers, don't go telling your mother..."

Here's another one from the Syrup Eddies. Margie sings and plays guitar, Victoria plays accordion and sings, Tim plays upright and electric bass, and Tommy plays drums and sings. They can be seen around Chicago and are based out of the Hotti Biscotti in Logan Square.
