Life imitating art imitating life

Posted about 5 years ago
So last night Im out at a club in Hollywood, watching my friend Robin's band play. Now, my personal life has been kind of....chaotic this year, culminating in me getting my heart broken by a guy I KNEW was going to. Unfortunately, said boy is my best friend. So I lost the guy I love and the guy I would turn to when some evil boy hurts me in one swoop. I digress. Out at this club (it's called the Gig, just to set the mood), to see Robin's band (The Small Hours, they really are fantastic, Im not just being biased.) with my friends. They finish their set, the next band comes on, they're just so-so (although, sax player.....very cute) anyway, the girl on after them is someone Robin had heard when they were touring in Australia. Her name is Missy Higgins. He says she's phenomenal and we should stay just to see her. She been on stage for less then 5 minutes before I have one of those experiences where the music you;re listening to coincidentally is exactly how you feel and what's going on in your life. Sitting in this bar in Hollywod, I almost burst into tears. Im not one of those girls that cries in public, I've been told repeatedly that Im unemtional to a fault. And here I am, almost crying because of a song that touches that exact right cord. Really, where I'm going with this is, listen to Missy Higgins. She's unbelievable.

  1. Wanbli says Saw Missy perform at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival this year. A great young talent that has many, many albums and songs to come in the future.

  2. MoreToKnow says Also saw her at Telluride (along with like 30 million other amazing artists) as well. I can never get the tone of her voice out of my head. Ironically I discovered her because three (yes three) years ago it was playing overhead on a mix (starbucks playlist). Fell in love that very moment.
