I originally bought tickets for this show as it was originally advertised as the Young Knives and the Long Blondes. Now I am not sure if the Young Knives were ever supposed to play or not that night. Although I was disappointed, I like the Long Blondes enough to go ahead and see this show.Opening bands were the Sharpening Markers and the Caves. Both up and coming Portland bands. The Sharpening Markers had great energy and an engaging lead singer...they were grooving in their confidence. Their drummer had serious skills which made their rhythms complex and interesting. The Caves were disappointing based on the internet buzz out there about them. Seemed to be too similar to Franz Ferdinand to be uniquely different. Maybe over time they'll find a way they can be The Caves. The Long Blondes came out with tons of energy, sexual and musical and overall excitement. Kate Jackson has a beautiful strong voice with a nice range. It is my humble opinion that we all need to see more bands where talented women musicians outnumber the dudes(3 chicks 2 dudes) The offered up a nice helping of glam "punk" and it was super fun lively and engaging evening! Still want to see the Young Knives someday but was glad that I saw the Long Blondes. If anyone knows the deal on the Young Knives and their Portland gig, do tell, I couldn't find anything out about it.
