So, i'm a geek. Sue me. With all there is to hate on, and be depressed about in the world, I'm coming back to MOG the way I got in. My folks Sterfish (I believe account now defunct) got me mogging regularly with his presentation of Christmas music. Since then it really made me reopen my mind and ears to a music that just makes me feel safe.
Much of what I'll post will be a review of African-Amercan takes on Christmas, but not all, so hold tight! Believe, if you keep following the posts, I'll surprise you. This first one is a classic that has too long been forgotten. For many People of Color in the U.S., Christmas has been a reminder of what we don't have. In response, many musicians from Chuck Berry to Run DMC have tried to reach the inhabitants of Chocolate Cities across America.
One of the first such efforts was "Let's Make Christmas Merry, Baby" by Amos Milburn. This joint illustrates both the celebration of what little is availible, and the materialism that we have since become major participants in. All that, and it just feels bluesy and Christmasy all the way around. Enjoy.

Talk about timing. Not only did I put up my first posts on MOG in months today, I also put up some Christmas music.

Brutha Los back in the house!!!
Kevin, I concur with everyone. That pencil thing is just about the spine-twingiest thing I've read in a long, long time.
i'm going to go huddle in a corner now.
Call yourself a geek and the button don't work?? I will sue you! :-) No neverminds coz I love Amos Milburn and got this track on a bunch of CDs I picked up in Japan of blues and jazz Christmas tunes. Wonderful to see it here.
Great to see you back and look forward to what you drop on us next.
Jonh I think it's a Mog issue. I can't seem to get around it on this post. I think the songs are there for all the others. Wow, I guess I have to turn in my International Association of Geeks membership card.
