Speaking of my daughter, she's 5-years-old and loves music. I noticed that when she was a baby that when I'd play some of my compilation CDs that I made in the car, she'd cry when some songs came up, but she'd be silent when another song would come up. I started to figure out which songs she liked and then I'd make some compilation CDs to listen to whenever we'd take a trip or had to run some errands that would either: keep her quiet or put her to sleep. One such song was Fisherspooner - Emerge. That song would keep quickly put her to sleep.Other songs she liked: Jimmy Fallon - Idiot Boyfriend (seriously)Dixie Chicks - LandslideVanessa Carlton - A Thousand MilesNo Doubt - Underneath It AllDixie Chicks - LandslideJohnny Cash - HurtThis is a double-edged sword. On one hand it's kind of cool that she'll like a song that I like. On the other hand, you run the risk of quickly getting sick of that song. One example of this is Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out, which she refers to as the "Skeleton Song" (think of the video). I decided to make another compilation CD because she started requesting songs that were on different CDs, so it was getting to be a pain to fish for those CDs while driving. Two songs on this CD are driving me nuts: Blondie - One Way Or Another, which she refers to as the "Cleaning Song" and Basement Jaxx - Romeo, which she refers to as the "Girl Show".So I'll be driving home from work with her in tow and she'll say, "Girl Show. Dadddy, I want to hear the Girl Show."So I'll put that on while I'm listening to my radio walkman softly. I know that's probably not legal to do, but if I didn't I'd quickly lose my mind. Because it's not that she wants to hear the song once. She wants to hear it over and over and over. I just put the song on repeat and put the speakers back to her so I don't have to hear it.The new favorite is the "Cleaning Song." All the way home... "One way or another. I'm gonna find ya..."Over and over and over.I think back to when I was a little kid. I'm surprised my parents didn't go insane from the songs that I'd listen to over and over. I remember I'd play a lot of my 45s with my twin brother over and over until we were sick of them. Great songs like Billy Joel's Pressure or Men At Work - Who Can It Be Now? You know, classics...So whenever I'm actually listen to the radio and am listening to a song I like, I cringe when she says, "Daddy, I want to hear the Cleaning Song."I sigh and my wife says, "This is all your fault..."
