WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Angel Dust hurting my ears

Posted over 3 years ago
Had the wife's piece-o-shit car today (her day off, so I'm stuck with the car without AC).Today's choice was another all time favorite, Faith No More's "Angel Dust". I had this cranked, which given it's soft and loud nature, probably led to some hearing loss over the din of loud semis next to me on the Interstate.I don't think there's an album out there like it. Almost every song sounds completely different from each other. It's very unique sounding. I remember the old FNM guitarist Jim Martin grumbling during an MTV news brief I saw about the release that "these guys haven't given me much to work with." However, his guitar chops are what make the album special. There are some really heavy licks between the swirling keyboards and twangy bass lines. The album sounds disfunctional, which I think is much of it's charm. Surprisingly, even my wife loves this album, which would be really funny if you saw her music collection, but that's another story. It's probably no wonder that after Martin was kicked out, they tried without success to replicate his guitar work, but couldn't. Each album after this was a major disappointment. Why can't bands just get along? Key tracks: Land of Sunshine, Mid-life Crisis, Jizzlobber, Small Victory.

  2. lemontwist says Pretty cool, I like it! Haven't given Faith No More too much listening time, I'll have to look into this album. I know what you mean about blasting music over the interstate noise with windows open. :) My dad had to choose between a V6 engine and A/C 14 years ago when he bought the car that is now mine. I'm glad he piked the V6 engine, but I have to blast my music pretty loud to hear it through my crappy speakers when I'm driving on busy roads. :)

  3. drew130 says This is great music indeed. I remember when “The Real Thing” came out and this album, but I was not a big fan beyond their more popular songs. One of roomates in college played the s**t out this CD. I kind of lost track of FNM until my younger cousin got into them (after they had broken up). It’s kind of strange, but I love FNM now! He introduced me to their albums after this one. They are a fixture on my ipod. If you are looking for any other music from them definately check out “King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime” (I believe their first after Jim Martin), and “Album of the Year” is one of their best.

  4. Bob At Large says I like some songs on both King for a Day and Album of the Year, but there still seems something missing. Not nearly as good as this one, but yes have some good songs.
