The Allure of H2O to songwriters

Posted almost 5 years ago
The rain has begun here, and it got me a thinkin'. What is the allure of writing about water? Just think about how many songs you know deal with : rain, the sea, the ocean, rivers, drowning, Floods (ie. my favorite, Peter Gabriel's "Here Comes The Flood.") I believe we all have a love for the life giving stuff, and reflect it in our art/music. I'm gonna make up a water mix....any cool tunes you wanna throw my way? 1.Talking Heads : Take Me To the River

  5. Jonh Ingham says Since it is absolutely pouring today, The Beatles - "Rain" is only too relevant. In The Postal Service's 'Clark Gable' there's a reference to the rain. Jefferson Airplane's 'Young Girl Sunday Blues' has the line, "Rain sliding down the side of my face, Must be a rainy day". The Prisonaires - 'Walking In The Rain' would make Cody happy. And how could anyone forget Zep's 'When The Levee Breaks'? Or is that Memphis Minnie? Or Bob Dylan? The Waterboys - Can't remember...Is it 'The River' or 'The Sea'?

  6. Blue Meenie says Ash,thanks I know the last couple, and am hunting the others down. Scot, never heard this track, but it sure is purdy :))) Jonh, I love Taj Mahal. I'm not sure if I know that tune though. Beach Boys are always a great choice to keep things up. I also love Postal Service. Will listen to that track. The only "Walking in the Rain" I know is by Flash and the Pan (which also is a good choice). Kev, I think I could live on a dock. There IS something peaceful, hearing water lapping at the shore....

  7. James12 says you guys are right, water's awesome, it can be a tranquil river, a raging torrent, or a solid piece of ice, we all love the good stuff, the life giving liquid, oh and maybe I didn't see it up there, and if it is up there, I apologize, but you forgot one B.J Thomas' Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head see you when the world's a better place, James.
