Kasabian - Empire

Posted almost 6 years ago
This is going to be short and... well crappy... but anyways I just finished listening to the new Kasabian album Empire. First impression? Not bad but at the same time nothing really stood out. Parts of the album reminded me of Primal Scream, but besides that nothing else really occured during my listen. I'm not saying the album is bad, it just lacked any songs that really stood out that much besides maybe the last track.I have a feeling if I read any professional reviews I will see the words "grown up" "polished" and other words usually associated with an artist losing their edge. Maybe if I give the album a better listen instead of my usual "background noise test" it might grow on me, but as of right now I have no urge to replay any songs.

  1. Bizarro Jesus says I think the reason why I'm not impressed with the album has to do with how the songs are played. Too many breaks and pauses, build ups that go flat, too many ideas for sounds that weren't fleshed out enough for my liking, and a near total lack of what I enjoyed about their last album. I can see why some people will like it, some simple and cheap tricks used quite often in songs, but nothing that impresses me or makes me want to listen to it more then once. I also noticed something with one of the songs, something I've been noticing with quite a few songs from various bands, the simply audio version of a song sounded wrong, made me feel uncomfortable so to speak, then I saw the music video and it made sense. It was as if the song was designed to be a music video rather then simply a song to listen to.

  2. Anna says just to avoid any further misunderstanding here. My level of English is not that high,so I have to ask. Is it my idea,or u manage to find ways to insult me in a subtle manner? ''I can see why some people will like it, some simple and cheap tricks used quite often in songs'' and in my post about robot chicken: ''The core audience seems to be college students here though''. :)

  3. Bizarro Jesus says Sorry about that, I was referring to things like simple 5 string guitar sections and other simple but effective sounds. Nothing special about them but they can throw in a few things like that that will catch your attention but they lack anything really deep. Sort of like a song using samples and they use an interesting sound or effect. They are neat, but they dont make a song. This was why I referred to the pauses and breaks, the track title song Empire has a lot of these in it, breaks that only work in the music video, sound effects that also only really work in the music video, and other things. In fact the more I think about the more I really dislike this album, which is a shame since I liked the last one. It just seems cheap to me now and lacks anything special that i haven't heard before.
