Album:Soundtrack, Masked & Anonymous
Although most recent comment has been about the Bootleg, vol 8 an undeservidly obscure Dylan delight is the soundtrack to Masked & Anonymous. I got it on vinyl, sounds damn fine although some of the material is covers by the likes of Jerry Garcia, Los Lobos and The Dixie Hummingbirds. Thought the movie itself had virtues, including performances by John Goodman, Jeff Bridges, Penelope Cruz and a nice scene of his touring band (Charlie Sexton, Larry Campbell, Tony Garnier and George Recile). The performance scene is well engineered; for someone who by reputation works quickly in the studio, it is clear a lot of thought and effort went into balance and giving a "live" feel. Strongly recommended for Dylan heads.

Amen.
I dunno, I was charmed by the young black kid but agree that most of the covers on the soundtrack were so-so. On another topic, I caught Ann Wilson and Heart in a recent tv concert, and she burned up the stage doing a cover of a Pete Townsend song. One of the best--both Townsend and Dylan are difficult to cover. Nina Simone did a great job of Desolation Row...
