Scott Walker new documentary
-
Artist:
I checked out 30 Century Man, a newly released documentary with executive producer none other than David Bowie. I doubt it will be in theatrical release for long--there was one other customer at the show, which opened last week end. If you are a fan, seek it out or look for the DVD. A lot of cameo appearances and comment by the many musicians Scott has influenced or inspired. Walker himself was pretty relaxed and talkative. The clips from the work he did on the soundtrack for Pola X was fascinating--a very very large and noisy ensemble and Scott said the two years he worked on the sound track was difficult and unpleasaant. He did mention the idea of doing some public performances with a small group and that he was working on a new album. Maybe a little more accessible than Continental Drift. There was a lot of his less familiar material, historical stuff and plenty of his unique baritone. It was clear that he a) doesn't listen to or revisit his past work, and b) is very opposed to release of several albums' worth of solo material, now out of print. I have no idea how he has made a living but you have to respect his integrity and cussedness. By the way, David Bowie looks good (I assume his bit was filmed after his coronary problems some three years ago) and said he went out with a woman who was a prior girlfriend of Scott's and had many of his records, which impressed him greatly. Fascinating film and a good introduction to his work.

Got the DVD. Now, I've got to carve out the time to watch it. And I will. Thanks for reminding me, Bob.
