I recently dug up Queen's A Night at the Opera and was surprised at how inventive and even daring it was for pop. The Prophet's Song in particular struck me as surprsingly progressive for its day (considering prog was vilified in the late 70s / early 80s...)
Anyway, this led me to looking for Bohemian Rhapsody on Youtube and, lo and behold, finding a superb cover of it by Austrian brass band Mnozil Brass. Check it out...

Still a great song to listen to in the back of a 68 Mustang, where is where I first heard it.
Is Queen a hipper Wings? Is this song derivative of Admiral Halsey/Uncle Albert?
Did McCartney set the stage for the freak out that is Bohemian Rhapsody?

That is just too awesome! I'm writing this as I am watching it and I just can't believe what I am seeing. When he breaks down and cries in the middle of the stage. Just wow! Queen should hire this guy just to sing that song during their Freddie-less concerts now.
It's also funny to me that the stereotypical cool guy (the one with the goatee) looks kind of out of place in this bunch.
The first time I heard this song was in an old stationwagon that my mom had while we were driving down to Livermore for a canoe race. She had Queen's Greatest Hits on cassette tape and she played the hell out of it. I must've been like 8 or 9 but I remembered every song on that tape and Queen became one of my favorite bands from then on.

I just asked a colleague of mine in Germany to order the live CD and DVD from Mnozil Brass for me. It's not for sale anywhere else I could find. I find the combination of brass and vocal harmonies particularly effective...

A good song can survive anything! Just kidding... I started liking Queen at Sheer Heart Attack, mainly because they had so many styles. They weren't afraid to go anywhere, were they?
