WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Groove meets Jazz with Erik Truffaz

Posted over 2 years ago
Groove and Jazz have flirted with each other since the 70s but in recent years, Truffaz's blend is the one I enjoyed the most. When Swiss slammer Nya is part of the mix, it gets even better. Here's a video from Yuri's Choice, taken from their first album The Dawn. Enjoy !

  1. Rapscallion says good choice (bad pun there) - i really like this song and the video is great too. but i'm interested in your usage of the word "groove" as a genre in itself... i've encountered it before, but how exactly is it defined?

  2. Ben FELTEN says Rapscallion, It's probably a personal use of the term, and I'm not sure if there's any official definition anywhere. Basically it's a way for me to regroup musical genres where funky grooves are predominant, whether it's funk, acid jazz, hip hop, etc. I guess the best way for me to decribe it is to point you to the groove flavoured podcast I launched a few months back: http://files.kymera.net/rambling/ramblingpodcastdec06.mp3 Let me know what you think...

  3. Rapscallion says nice podcast man, some great selections in there... i think it answered my question perfectly as well :) i've seen the word "groove" most commonly used in relation to funk, like on allaboutjazz.com, but using it in a technical way is almost like trying to use "funk" or "funky" in a technical way - although people who know about music will probably understand, i think it's hard for others to really grasp the meaning because the words have become so mainstream and part of a normal vocabulary.
