King's X is one of those bands for whom I will gladly, faithfully pick up each and every record. *Ogre Tones* is "big rock sound" production outing, and melodically, the band is in top form. A few reviews that I've come across have praised the band for leaving their difficult, experimental phase. But, see, I
liked that phase, especially *Manic Moonlight*. This record, after several passes, doesn't have a lot that I can hang onto. It sounds great when it's playing, and the new rendition of "Goldilox" is a perfect companion to the tired rant that Doug Pinnick posted on the KsX message board back in the spring. Several steps down, it's the sound of a battle worn trio that keeps plowing onward despite a continuous cold shoulder from hipsters. And don't listen to what people tell you: *Gretchen Goes to Nebraska* is NOT the only KsX record you need.
