Forever Yours, Faithfully

King's X is one of those bands for whom I will gladly, faithfully pick up each and every record. *Ogre Tones* is "big rock sound" production outing, and melodically, the band is in top form. A few reviews that I've come across have praised the band for leaving their difficult, experimental phase. But, see, I liked that phase, especially *Manic Moonlight*. This record, after several passes, doesn't have a lot that I can hang onto. It sounds great when it's playing, and the new rendition of "Goldilox" is a perfect companion to the tired rant that Doug Pinnick posted on the KsX message board back in the spring. Several steps down, it's the sound of a battle worn trio that keeps plowing onward despite a continuous cold shoulder from hipsters. And don't listen to what people tell you: *Gretchen Goes to Nebraska* is NOT the only KsX record you need.

  1. Jess Horrible says I have to agree with you -- although I don't know KsX, I have some favorite groups that have left experimental music behind and gone more mainstream... and a lot of times, it's a real disappointment. Oh well.

  2. atman says the first two King's X albums, I played over and over and over and over and over and over, and didn't get tired of them. I have to honestly say, though, that I've had a hard time making myself pickup a new King's X cd. Maybe it's that I don't think they're newer stuff will live up to what I remember from Gretchen Goes To Nebraska and Out Of The Silent Planet.

  3. pETULENTfRENZY9000 says This bares repeating: "And don’t listen to what people tell you: Gretchen Goes to Nebraska is NOT the only KsX record you need." One of the greatest, most underrated, band ever. I've seen these guys somewhere around 12 times LIVE and they continue to just blow me away. LONG LIVE THE KING('s X)!!
