Thanks to the MOG glitch, I too lost my previous post regarding this band.
In honor of rainy days, Sundays and cleaning, I had mentioned that I once again picked up the herculean task of ripping my vinyl. Now it's Tuesday, but the weather and the sentiment still hold true.
What album inspired this post you ask? Why Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks, "Where's the Money?". Recorded in 1971 at the Troubadour in Hollywood CA, this album was part of my childhood Sunday cleaning house soundtrack, but it's one that holds the test of time. Of course, it was a new recording when I was first introduced to it!
Every song has a definite story and the fun vocal harmonies, violins, upright bass and toe tapping tunes keep you moving at a nice pace. It's one of those albums that was a bit different from the rock and folksy vibe that was happening at the time. It's been called a cross-pollination of jazz, folk and cowboy/western swing. I think it's one of those albums that anyone and everyone can enjoy at any time, even in the same room!
