Saturday Soul (a mix not just for Saturdays)

This playlist is based on some of my new favorites and some old favorites, I like the way the older Etta James goes with Trainwreck DeLuxe Amy Winehouse, And fantastic retro soul kats Orgone, -of California- whose The Killion Floor appears all through the early evening music. There's also some new funk and soul sound from Spain, The Pinker Tones which I highly reccommend. The beginning of this mix has some interesting African Salsa, from the Album of the same name, African Salsa, as well as some DePhazz, technically NuJazz, but they reach into the roots of rock on the latest CD, so it fits into the retro sound of this evening's music well. Also of note is the music of Thunderball, who, as the band's name suggests, reach for a 70's James Bond sound, from the ESL guys--always worth your time. Oh, and if you were around late, you heard M.I.A. chopping it up Sri Lanka-come NYC style, nothing cooler at the moment in hip hop, from her recent KALA.
