MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:
Track:

Okay, so my goal of spending a $100 itunes gift certificate on 100 super-strange songs by 100 different artists is looking, well, really strange. We've got twenty-eight so far, and they represent the whole spectrum of oddness, so dig deep for the craziest tunes in your collection - I NEED MORE WEIRD MUSIC IN MY LIFE!!! (My girl friend would argue otherwise, but that's another post all together...)

Here's the the first 28 of the 100 strangest songs out there (in Mog-o-logical order):

The Shaggs - Philosophy of the World The Conet Project Shooby Taylor Black Velvet Flag - "Institutionalized" Sun Ra - Interstellar Low Ways Magnetic Fields - Fido Your Leash Is Too Long Squirrel Nut Zippers John Otway - The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance Vivian Stanshall - Terry Keeps His Clips On The Goons - The Ying Tong Song Hasil Adkins - Ha Ha Cat Walk The Animals - Spill The Wine Tiny Tim - Just What Do You Mean By Antichrist? Ohio Players -Funky Worm Velvet Underground - The Gift Themselves - Paging Dr. Moon & Gun B52s - Rock Lobster Cabaret Voltaire - Why Kill Time When You Can Kill Yourself? Faust - "Anything off of 'The Faust Tapes'" Cromagnon - Caledonia Julie Brown - Homecoming Queen's Got A Gun Butterfly Child - Cancer Killed Capricorn Dead Milkmen - Bitchin Camaro Magnet - Willow's Song Television Personalities - I was Mod Before You Was Mod Nina Hagen - Wau Wau Stereo Total - Push It (Saln N Pepa Cover) or I Love You Ono El Vez - "Anything"

P.S. I'm not going to make my purchase until I get a list of 100 songs. I want to see how much weird iTunes can handle...

Any instrumental song that you can find by Cell's ost certainly qualifies as strange. If you are not looking just for songs with lyrics that is.

what about that horrible song that i love so much about "someone left the cake out in the rain" and "now, ill never have that recipe again"... what the fuck is wrong with the guy who sings that shit. i love how absurd it is that he is so upset about the cake... must be a cake-a-holic... im gonna cover it and change it to "someone left my beer out in the rain, if i find that fucker i'll kick him in the spleen". ok, maybe not.

The Shaggs is a great choice. Would suggest:

Captain Beefheart - Neon Meate Dream Of A Octafish (or anything from Trout Mask Replica) The Fall - Free Range Truman Water - anything from Of Thick Tum LP Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah (recent Eurovision winners - how???) Melvins - Pure Digital Silence (from Prick)

And for the brave something by the Boredoms, from Pop Tatari - its all weird!

etcvisitor, that's "Macarthur Park" by Richard Harris. And yes, it's awful (and weird).

I have a few more:

"Hippie Boy" by The Flying Burrito Bros. "Truck Turner" by Isaac Hayes "Don't Bet Money on the Shanghai" by BR549 "Wah-Watusi" by The Orlons "Hooked on a Feeling" by Blue Swede "Life is a Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me)" by Reunion

... and anything by Yma Sumac. Take your pick.

If you were a real man, you'd purchase only blank tracks. You know, like placeholders for hidden tracks. Then, if you were a real man, you would press a thousand of them and put it out.
