Nashville Rocks Harder Than Your Town Does Part 4: Southern Girls Rock & Roll Camp

Posted over 5 years ago
If any of you read the recent "Pitchfork article.":http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/37392/Rock_Camp_for_Girls_Takes_Over_America about Rock Camps for Girls, you probably know that BYOP's Jemina Pearl graduated from one of these programs. What P-fork forgot to mention was that she went to the "Southern Girls Rock & Roll Camp.":http://www.sgrrc.orgI've been volunteering with SGRRC for three years now, and I have to say it's one the coolest things I've ever been a part of. Seriously, this is the heart of the Bible Belt and the capitol of country music. It's the last place you would expect to find a progressive, feminist rock organization, but here it is still thriving and still growing. My friend Kelley started the camp four years ago and it's quickly become a local institution. The staff is a who's who of local rockers/scenesters with TONS of expierience (over a 1000 years of combined expertise!). The showcase is one of the best shows you'll ever see, with all the bands (that formed at the beginning of the week) playing the craziest, most exciting (and excited) music you'll ever hear. It'll dope-slap the jaded-hipster right out of ya.For more info check out:www.sgrrc.com
