WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

The Future Now

"I was partly enthused by the events of '77 in music and had come to the conclusion that while it would be palpably absurd for me to attempt to work in or present myself as belonging to either Punk or New Wave then at least the opportunity appeared to be there to stretch the boundaries of the pop song, both in its musical and lyrical content and composition." - Peter Hammil on The Future NowThis album is one of the reasons I love working in a record store. Some random dude traded this album in, the cover intrigued me and I had to throw it on the turntable. I've been hooked ever since.Hammill recorded this while Van de Graf was falling apart at the seems. It definitely sounds like a man unraveling onto two-inch tape. The production is sparse and the tunes are stark and haunting. If you're into late-70's Bowie or Joy Division, do yourself a favor and buy this album - now.On his website "Sofa Sound":http://www.sofasound.com/phcds/tfncd.htm Hammill talks about the extraneous circustances 'Future' was recorded under...mind blowin' stuff really. I definitely wouldn't have made it.
