Sunday under covers with Frankie Paul
-
Artist:
Partially sighted Jamaican singer and multi-instrumentalist Frankie Paul was born Paul Blake in 1965. While Wikipedia tells you that he began recording as "Paul Blake and the Bloodfire Posse", this is wholly false - *that* Paul Blake is now a Christian gospel singer> Frankie Paul has been making records for nigh on 25 years now, without ever breaking through to a wider audience, despite his being as much at home with soul and reggae stylings, and being ablec to update his sound.
Here he is, doing a fairly decent job on David Ruffin's best known solo tune, on a disc from the mid-eighties

Wow, this one takes me back. Back in the mid-Eighties, Mrs. Ivylander used to work for a tour operator that specialized in Jamaica and we used to fly down to Montego Bay on a Saturday morning, hit the beach by noon and have dinner with friends at some local place in Trelawny. Then on Sunday she would babysit travel agents all day while I did zippo. I fondly recall this song from that time, which was also the Sophia George era....ooh, now I've gotta go find "Girly Girly"....
Both sides of "Girlie Girlie" are on here already, Ivy....
His voice, the arrangement and song are all exemplary. Great music, new to me.
