SUTC: Keith Hudson

Artist:

Those of you who are familiar with "Pick a Dub", Hudson's breakthrough set from 1975, credited to the "IInd Street Dreads" and mixed by King Tubby, will be familiar with "In The Rain".
It's not entirely easy to pick out on a first couple of listens, but it is based on the Dramatics hit from 1973
Keith Hudson's vocal take was released on a 45 on the "Mafia" label, and has not, to my knowledge, resurfaced on any of his many compilations. This is a rip of a very scratchy 45, that came to me by a route not necessarily to be recommended, but as Mr Hudson is long since deceased and the record likewise unavailable, here it is. Nobody would ever suggest he was the most gifted vocalist, but he can occasionally surprise the listener by bringing something unexpected from a tune.

The Keith Hudson track that does me in is 'Write Me Your Resume'. Never heard anything else like it either from him or reggae in general.
For those unfamiliar with the song to which Jonh refers -
