Great song. You could spend a few days documenting Little Richard's musical canon. But one post on The One True King? C'mon!
Not his usual rip-snorter but great nonetheless. I've got this on the Specialty Box Set of LR. I need to go beyond that...
DMDM - this is my third Little Richard post here, and I posted one of his tunes in my Earl Palmer tribute, so I'm doing my bit to keep the great one in the public eye on MOG
"Oh Why" is a great one. I missed your April post featuring his "Freedom Blues," but let me make up for it by offering another cut, "Two Time Loser" from the same LP, The Rill Thing (1970), that the cool "Freedom Blues" came from.
I love the recording, but am surprised Warner Bros released it as is, since it sounds as if Little Richards' voice is set too low at the very beginning (though within a few seconds it's turned up); also, at the end of the guitar solo, Little Richard starts to sing for a second and stops, realising he should have waited. I could have done without the harmonica solo at the end.
Spike: Hmmm...not his "slickest" recording session, no. Has the feel opf a filler track the label was left with to beef out the LP to a proper length after the musicians had all gone home
