TAKE OFF YOUR SOCKS LEST THEY BE KNOCKED

Doo-Wop Thursday with the Supremes

Posted about 1 year ago

WHAT?
I hear you cry.

No, missus, not those skinny girls on Motown, The Supremes from Columbus, Ohio; Forest Porter (lead), Bobby Isbell, Eddy Dumas, Jay Robinson and Eddie Jackson, who formed the group at high school, were discovered in Pensacola, Florida by Joe Ruffino, who signed them to ACE Records.

They made one single, backed by Huey "Piano" Smith on ....err...piano and Lee Allen on sax then disappeared back north.

Thirty years ago a 45 of this was selling for $30 - I suspect you'd need the Gdp of a small Caribbean island to afford it now.

Of the different types of rare r&b and r&r records, the vocal group genre has commanded the highest prices even in the late 1950s, at least from what I've read.

P.S. The song sounds great.  Ace chose not to put "[sic]" at the end of the song's title.
