WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

JERRY WEXLER 1917-2008

Posted about 1 year ago

This man deserves not one, but ten full pages of tributes. To lose him five days after Isaac Hayes really brings another golden era of popular music closer to its end.

Everything that can be said about him will be said over the next few days. Yes, he was a flawed individual, whose devotion to the music was almost matched by his devotion to the profit/loss account, but tonight is not the night for that. His productions lit up the lives of millions, and his skills as a producer have seldom been equalled, moving as he did from Percy Sledge to Bob Dylan, amongst countless others.

Five years ago Sam Phillips passed on. Today we have lost his equal; another giant, the like of whom the world shall not see again.

He coined the term "Rhythm and Blues"...that alone would be good enough on my tombstone! Another legend gone...
