SUNDAY COVERS - THE METERS PLAY THE BEATLES

Posted about 1 year ago

Much as I love the Meters music in general, I think this tune misses the mark spectacularly, as they add little to a typical John Lennon dirge. Mind you, millions of you out there love the Beatles in all their forms, so let's see what YOU all think of this track - not up to me to say what's good or bad, as it all depends on individual taste. Comments awaited with interest.

You would have a hard time finding a bigger Beatles fan than me, and I really like this. The instrumental backing doesn't create the moody feeling that the original does, but I like the vocalist.

I am a huge Meters apologist, but would tend to agree with the author.  The Beatles are a tough cover for me with some exceptions (Al Green's Wanna Hold Your Hand is a notabe one that comes to mind) and The Meters are at their best doing Tuissant stuff - preferably with Lee Dorsey fronting.
