WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

There haven't been any posts of Hispano-Judaic Ladino music on MOG

until now, obviously.

Prior to 1492, Spain had a fairly large Sephardic Jewish population, who were all expelled by royal decree in that year. As they settled in North Africa and the like, they retained elements of the ancient Spanish tongue, and its instrumentation, and the music became known as Ladino. There are hardly any still alive who speak the old language, but the music survives, particularly when sung by Yasmin Levy, who is possessed of a truly breathtaking voice.

The title of this song translates as "You and I Flying in the Sky"

Yup. She's 32 years old now and made her first album in 2002. This was released in 2005.
