(I can't find the exact date) Al Green played a live show at the National Arena, Kingston, JA, that changed the course of reggae music. Virtually all the island's top session men were there, and the powerful guitar playing of Mabon "Teenie" Hodges became the style to copy in the ensuing weeks and months. Covers of Al Green songs became de rigueur, with Al Brown and Skin Flesh & Bones enjoying huge success with "Here I Am Baby" for one. The tune that REALLY dominated though was "Love and Happiness", with its hammering guitar intro. *However*, I'm not going to start tonight with a reggae tune: I haven't been able to find any live recordings of the 1970s vintage Al Green playing "Love and Happiness", but here is his labelmate O.V. wright performing it live in Tokyo with the Hi Records rhythm section, Teenie Hodges to the fore. This is dynamite.
