WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

SUTC: Freddie McGregor

The (Detroit) Spinners "Ghetto Child" is one of those records that was a lesser hit in their American homeland (reaching #4 on the R'n'B chart, and barely scraping the pop charts), but was the only one of their 1970s tracks to make the Top Ten in the UK.

As this seems to be the only reggae cut of it, it seems to have been much less popular than "It's A Shame" and "I'll Be Around" in Jamaica. Despite all this, Freddie McGregor's 1980 cut on Studio One, cut with the Brentford Rockers (Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace on drums and Earl "Bagga" Walker on bass) is still worth a listen
