While most Ethiopian tunes posted on here are from the most excellent Ethiopiques series of CDs released over the past few years, or from the recent tracks cut by the likes of Getatchew Mekurya with American basedmusicians familiar with old Ethiopian styles, tonights choice is by Ejigayehu Shibabaw aka Gigi, an Ethiopian lady singer whose eponymous CD was released in 2001, produced by Bill Laswell and featuring the talents of Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Pharaoh Sanders

I haven't heard Bill Laswell for too many years. This is sublime, in that Afro-Euro melange that seems to bring out the best in all participants. I'm surprised she isn't better known.
