Saturday original

of a riff much better known as a sample. These are the Chi-Lites, released on Brunswick in 1970, with a horn riff that became massively famous more than 30 years later courtesy of Beyoncé Knowles and Jay-Z

....Oh, now I understand...You're bringing us to the original.  I was under the impression that I was gonna hear the dulcet tones of Baudolino on my Saturday morning.  I like this song though, that dude singin' the bass is a gas!  I know very little of the Chi-Lites' music so this comes as a revalation to me,  thanks.

One of my absolute favorite songs back in that day was "Have You Seen Her". Still is to this day. Thanks for sharing this- I never knew where Beyoncé's sample came from.

    Damn MOG ate my comment..

Robert Christigau called Eugene Record, the lead singer, a wimp god. I lurve the Chi Lites. This cracker starts out Motown-y, then goes full blown Chicago style.

    Nice reverse engineering.

It's true, Cody - I love Eugene Record's voice, but compared with him, Eddie Kendricks is Mr. T. Great cut.
