By a maudlin moon
Illustration taken from "Viaje a la luna" ("Journey to the Moon") by Federico Garcia Lorca & Emilio Amero
I have thought those dreams a thousand times
And I have dreamt those hopes a thousand more
Never once will you feel
The sound of those reveries
Though they are an echo of your absence
Like the sun in the mirror of the morning mist
They reflect from the unison of your silence
/>
The time has come for me to fill these expressions
with words and sounds...to empty the reminiscence
To climb the hill hidden behind these memories
To find the tree between the weeds and the woods
There against the trunk and amidst the leaves
I will press my lips to seal off the echo of your silence

Simply gorgeous. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon. Thanks!

One of my favorite Simone cuts. In fact, "Wild Is The Wind" may be my favorite album of hers...

Cody: Merci infiniment for finding beauty to this modest post.
Dzendvokh: Welcome to this MOG-closet. "Lilac Wine" has been my companion for every single in the last 6 years and I still feel the same as you. Glad you enjoyed.
Scot: Sound and sight are here for your enjoyment, Mr Inventor of New Particles.
GC: When I first mentioned this song to a friend of mine she was sure it was by Jeff Buckley - I think it featured on his "Grace." For me, Simone sings it with her wounds and from the other side of drunkenness which cannot be equalled by anyone else.
quell86: You're welcome my alpha-digital friend.
Ivy: I couldn't agree more with you. "Wild Is The Wind" features one of Nina Simone's strongest combos and most potent songs.

Can you believe I had never heard this version! It is on Jeff Buckley's 'Grace' and I never realised it was a cover (amateur!)
Thanks B for the introduction, I have always loved Nina Simone's voice, so full of emotion. I'm glad I now know the origins of this beautiful song.
Goosebumps? Yes!

Strawberry St: I'm delighted to see you enjoying this version of this "heady wine" by Nina. The song itself was itself composed by James Shelton in the 50s . Elkie Brooks got a major hit with it in the 70s. (see wiki)
Soulrocket: Your compliment is very heartening. Thank you. I'm always amazed to see that people do enjoy the music that I post. It's so melancholy at times. (Hey, I'm proud to be saturnine)
GA: I'm so glad to be able to give an entrée to anything at all. You've introduced to so much music that I'm delighted to be able to share this with you.
Jeff Buckley ~ Lilac Wine (Grace, 1994)About his version, here's what Jeff Buckley says: "I've only heard Nina Simone's...And that's the only one that matters. There's one by Ertha Kitt. There's one by Elkie Brooks, which I've never, ever heard. There's another one. But they've done it, but Nina does it best. That's the end all of it. That's the be all end all version. She's the king."
