[Offenbach - La Belle Hélène (Overture) - 9:04]
New Year's Eve and New Year in particular brings along the familiar callers: distant relatives whom you haven't heard in ages, the neighbours who forgot their keys and that most in-your-face friend: the Hangover.

For me, it is yet another visitor whom I send for to sort out my friend with the plasterer's pocket: *Jacques Offenbach*. Here is the Overture of his opéra bouffe in 3 acts entitled "La Belle Hélène" (or "The Beautiful/Fair Helen")
Perhaps, this scene from "La Veuve Joyeuse" will also ring a bell.
What is your hair of the dog or favourite hangover music?

  1. Anna says I usually go with Tricky. He always soothes my body and mind. Happy New Year, monsieur Michael. May this be a glorious and exciting one. Here's some candy for you (hopefully you'll find them to be elegant, I wanted them to match your writing ways and manners):

  2. asrati says Music has too many notes for the hangovers I get, chum. However, since I happened to have had no bubbly last night, I'm enjoying the Offenbach just fine.

  4. ivylander says Offenbach is great fun, but if your head can take all that movement the day after a debauch - let alone be improved by the experience - my hat is off to you, friend. The day after, I need something consoling, with not a lot of moving parts, but something that will make me feel a little less stupid than I do at that moment. Something like this..... (Antonio Carlos Jobim - A Felicidade)

  10. Misstee says I don't have a hangover this morning(though I overslept like I did)...but usually Air's Moon Safari or some downtempo Jobim works best for me. Happy New Year!

  11. Bartleby says *Anna*: Thanks for the cake - Tricky is definitely a dessert of choice. BTW, you're still drunk. Asrati's not blurred at all ;) *asrati*: Thanks for popping around after you popped all those champers ;) *Ivy*: You're right, it may be too much. But it's the whole idea the dog's hair isn't it? Truth be told, I wanted something like your track but I thought MOG could use a little more classical music. Thanks also for the lovely A. Carlos Jobim. (I've heard a wacky German version once in a Viennese café) *Dachmo*: Yes, sir. Rhymes with cycle ;) *MusikM*: Smooth and mellow like a lemon tea in the morning. Thanks ever so much for the Jimmy Haslip. (Never heard of him before so very grateful to you) *Neill*: BJ. Yes but are you the giving or receiving end of this oral exercise? *Misstee*: You've been wiser than most of us. Happy New to you too ;)

  13. FastRMacR says Like it - yes indeed. I must say ivylander has the best music prescription IMO. Bill Evans always works for me. That and plenty of WATER (and more WATER) - which looks like what dmdm needs on those terribly young plants.

  14. TylerDurden says loved the sweet classical...or was it baroque... sober for 4 years now, but I used to love Pantera's 101 live, or Pink Flloyd's dark side of the moon.... in the mornings now, It's Bullet for My Valentine, or Silverchair

  19. Bartleby says *FluxC*: You're too kind, sir. Me, making you laugh? It's only fair after all the witty humour you've lavished on us. *GA*: So I'm some good shit. I feel honoured though I think you must have had a hand in it. (The proprietor has a wicked mindset which is just to my liking). Thanks. *Sunny*: Van Morrison goes down like a smooth whiskey. Thanks for the shot ;)
