O dear fellow Mogger and amiable Visitor, if only I could slip this as a note on silken paper in your pocket for you to take along your day.
Do you remember the delicate touch of paper under your palm as you scribble a billet? In these digitised times of ours, who still uses paper for writing? Our fingers are accustomed to the plastic touch of keyboards and have long forgotten the organic feel of vegetable fibre...
I wish I could make you feel the caress which is the touch of washi, Venetian or perhaps Parisian paper.

Try and imagine. Try to consider this not a binary code displayed on your computer screen but a velvety note from yours truly. Also will you please accept this song not as a Yuletide-yodel but as an affectionate tune hummed for your ears only.

    deadmandeadman says When I first got "here" (the world of computers), I was stunned and amazed how easy it was to create a mix. Drag n drop, YEAH! But soon an emptiness started creeping in. I couldn't identify it at first, but it dawned on me slowly; I missed the tactile sense of holding each cd (or album), examining it, reading the text, choosing the songs. Its all so cold now. I know this is off point Bartleby, but random thoughts spark random thoughts, you know?

    zarpex says You beat me to it, ivylander. Those of you who appreciate the tactile richness of paper will experience a new dimension of it if you write on it with a fountain pen. It doesn't have to be an expensive one. My vanity got the better of me about fifteen years ago, and I went to a dentist to get my teeth whitened. I was fitted wth this little clear plastic thing that I was supposed to fill with some sort of whitening agent, put on my teeth, and go to sleep as normal. I woke up in horrific pain the next morning, my teeth screaming. The dentist, when I called him about it, said it was normal. I got a new dentist immediately, of course, and the pain died down by nighttime, but for about ten solid days afterwards, I could not bear to touch anything but metal, stone or plastic. If my fingers brushed against a bit of cardboard, a piiece of fabric, my own skin, a wooden floor - ANYTHING but metal, stone or plastic - it went straight to my teeth, and the pain would instantly return in its full fury. I had no choice but to stay in my apartment stark naked and sleep on the kitchen floor, which was stone of some sort, with a space heater on either side of me. Our eroding experience of the tactile could not have eroded any faster for me then....

    Jonh Ingham says Fabulous version! Always perplexed that Roy, of all voices, would opt for a sad Xmas song. And washi...the best paper ever. Used to go to a washi store in Tokyo just to feel the paper. Thanks for a lovely experience - good to feel some real paper again.

    LadyC says what an interesting post, the comments veering into some similar nostalgia. paper and pen are a joy, as the tactile wonders of cooking fresh from a garden or farm or the lines and strokes that end up into a picture. this paper is beautiful. i have a letter set from india, it's paper is coarse but silky, colourful and miniature. it takes to pen like skin and almost too precious to use because of its' size.
